How to Care for Your Raffia & Straw Bag

Your Riviera bag is handwoven from natural raffia. Natural fibers are light and beautiful, but they don't like water, heat or being crushed. A little care keeps the weave crisp and the colors bright.

1. Keep It Dry

  • Natural raffia is not waterproof. Avoid rain, wet sand and setting it down on damp surfaces.
  • If it gets wet, blot it gently with a dry towel, stuff it with tissue paper to hold its shape, and let it air-dry at room temperature.
  • Never use a hairdryer, radiator or direct sun to dry it. Heat makes the fibers brittle and can warp the shape.

2. Regular Dusting

  • Brush the weave with a soft, dry brush (a clean makeup brush or soft toothbrush works well), following the direction of the weave.

3. Spot Cleaning

  • Dip a cloth in a little mild soap and water, then wring it until it is barely damp.
  • Dab the mark gently. Don't scrub, as this can loosen the weave.
  • Wipe with a clean, barely damp cloth and let it air-dry completely.
  • Never soak the bag or put it in the washing machine.

4. Loose Strands

  • If a strand comes loose, don't pull it. Tuck it back into the weave, or trim it carefully with small scissors.
  • If you're not sure, just write to us at hello@jurgibrand.com and we'll help.

Storing Your Bag:

✔ Stuff it with tissue paper and keep it in its dust bag to hold its structured shape.
✔ Never crush or stack anything on top of it.
✔ Avoid long sun exposure, which fades colors and dries out natural fibers.
✔ Keep sunscreen, oils and perfume away from the raffia, as they can stain.
✔ Store in a cool, dry place, never in a damp basement or a hot car.

Because every Riviera bag is handwoven, small variations make each piece unique. Cared for gently, it will be part of many summers.
